About Panda Express
Panda Express, located at 11449 South St, Cerritos, CA 90703, United States, stands as a vibrant example of how immigrant entrepreneurship and innovation can shape the American culinary landscape. As a leading fast-food chain specializing in Chinese standards, Panda Express has become synonymous with accessible, flavorful, and consistent American Chinese cuisine, serving communities across the nation and beyond. The Cerritos location, reachable at +1 562-924-6961, is part of a vast network that reflects the brand’s commitment to quality, convenience, and community engagement.
The story of Panda Express is deeply rooted in family and vision. Founded by Andrew and Peggy Cherng, who both immigrated to the United States from Asia in the mid-1960s, the business began as a modest sit-down restaurant called Panda Inn in Pasadena, California, in 1973[1][3]. Andrew, alongside his father, master chef Ming-Tsai Cherng, introduced Southern Californians to authentic Chinese flavors, gradually building a loyal customer base despite early challenges[3]. The real transformation came in 1983, when the Cherngs launched the first Panda Express in the Glendale Galleria, pioneering a fast-casual model that brought Chinese food to the masses in a mall food court setting[1][2][3]. This innovative approach—combining the speed of fast food with the appeal of freshly prepared dishes—set Panda Express apart from traditional Chinese restaurants and laid the foundation for its nationwide expansion.
What truly distinguishes Panda Express is its blend of tradition and technology. Peggy Cherng, holding advanced degrees in applied mathematics, computer science, and electrical engineering, was instrumental in customizing computerized operating systems for the chain, making Panda Express one of the first restaurants to leverage technology for tasks like order-taking, inventory tracking, and ingredient reordering[1][6]. This early adoption of tech solutions not only streamlined operations but also ensured consistency and quality across hundreds of locations—a critical factor in the chain’s rapid growth and enduring popularity.
The menu at Panda Express, including the Cerritos location, features a mix of classic and contemporary dishes inspired by various regions of China, such as Canton, Beijing, and Szechuan[4]. While the offerings are tailored to American tastes, the chain has maintained a commitment to food quality, with many dishes prepared on-site to preserve freshness and flavor[4]. The introduction of Orange Chicken in 1987, created by former executive chef Andy Kao, became a cultural phenomenon; today, the dish is so popular that nearly half of all customers include it in their meal, and the chain sells millions of pounds annually[1][2]. Other signature items include Beijing Beef, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and a range of health-conscious Wok Smart™ selections—dishes under 300 calories with at least 8 grams of protein, catering to diners seeking lighter options without sacrificing taste[2].
Panda Express’s growth has been both strategic and community-focused. After establishing a strong presence in Southern California, the chain expanded across the United States, eventually venturing into international markets such as Mexico, Canada, South Korea, and Dubai[2]. Despite its scale, Panda Express remains a family-owned business, with the Cherngs actively involved in operations and innovation. The launch of the Panda Cares philanthropic arm in 1999 underscores the company’s dedication to giving back, supporting underserved children, disaster relief, and educational initiatives in the communities it serves[2][5].
The Cerritos location, like all Panda Express restaurants, offers a welcoming environment for dine-in, takeout, and catering, making it a convenient choice for families, professionals, and anyone craving a quick, satisfying meal. The staff at 11449 South St are trained to deliver friendly service and uphold the brand’s standards for food safety and customer satisfaction. Whether you’re stopping by for a classic combo or exploring the latest seasonal specials, Panda Express in Cerritos provides a taste of a culinary tradition that has become a beloved part of American culture.
In summary, Panda Express at 11449 South St, Cerritos, CA 90703, is more than just a Chinese restaurant—it’s a testament to the power of innovation, family values, and community spirit. The food at this Panda Express location is decent, but the morning customer service needs improvement. I arrived at 9:30 AM and waited for the doors to open. When the lady opened the door, there was no greeting, no eye contact and felt like she was avoiding me. She was also the cashier. Her face was completely fixed, and she did not smile or say anything at all. It felt very unwelcoming to start the day. I hope management can train their opening staff to be more inviting to customers.

We took the food to go. One of the entrees I ordered had very little left in the bowl in which they serve it from so they had to make more, but I was wondering why they wait till it gets too low in the bowl which they serve the entree from before they start preparing another batch? And it did take quite a while to prepare it as well. However, the food is delicious though and I do highly recommend Panda Express. Also, the Panda app has some good deals as well, if you use it. The End.

I had to wait an extra 10 minutes for my order even though I was extremely hungry. The woman at the register was unfriendly and kept asking for my name and order number multiple times. After already waiting, I was asked three more times whose order it was, like nobody could organize the orders properly. The food was terrible — easily the worst Panda Express I’ve been to compared to other locations. The dish in the red box was so overcooked that I could barely stick a fork into it. Instead of separate pieces, it was one clumped-together mess that was impossible to chew. It honestly feels like this place doesn’t care about either the customers or the food they serve. The cook who made this should seriously consider changing professions.
